Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm is a great way to spend a few hours in Bangkok. It became very famous when the owner introduced Yai, currently the world’s largest crocodile in captivity. The farm itself is one the largest in the world boasting over 100,000 crocodiles. The park and zoo however are not limited to crocodiles and feature tigers, monkeys, turtles, snakes and lots more.
One of the highlights of Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm is the crocodile show. Performers fearlessly place their head and limbs in the jaws of crocodiles for your entertainment. It is worth seeing, both spectacular and terrifying. Surprisingly there is only one recorded incident where a crocodile snapped its jaws shut on a performer’s head and he came out miraculously unharmed. Admittedly, the crocodiles are smaller, not quite the size of Yai the giant crocodile which is 6 metres long and weighs over a tonne.
A trip to Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm is not complete without a walk around the crocodile enclosures where you can take pictures of the reptiles underneath. If you have ever wondered what it is like to feed a chicken to a crocodile, here is your chance. The farm sells whole chickens near the enclosure and visitors can purchase poultry and feed it to the animals. Bear in mind that some of the crocodiles are very large and this activity is not for the faint of heart. But watching the crocodiles go wild over chickens is an impressive spectacle and they can move extremely fast. The smell can be off putting after a long time, but it is worth a visit.
