Novotel Bangkok IMPACT - Family & Business trip hotel - Arts of the Kingdom

Arts of the Kingdom

Arts of the Kingdom is a spectacular exhibition showcasing some of Thailand’s incredible arts and crafts at Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall. If you wish to discover and appreciate the superb arts and craftsmanship of Thailand, this is truly a must-visit place. The exhibition sits in the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, a large impressive building of Italian Renaissance style. The two-storey Throne Hall resembles the famous Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City in Italy. It is all in Italian white marble with a large dome in the middle and six smaller surrounding domes. It is the work of two Italian architects, Annibale Rigotti and Mario Tamagno on King Chulalongkorn’s commission.

Arts of the Kingdom exhibition features priceless objets d’art from the hands of The SUPPORT Foundation’s craftsmen. The newest edition is at the Borommangalanusarani Pavilion on the east side and front of the Throne Hall. The opulent pavilion is in traditional Thai style with nine spires and eight gables with the royal insignia and cyphers of the Mahidol family. Other new features of Arts of the Kingdom include the magnificent Beetle Wing Room. The green wings and exoskeleton of the jewel beetles decorate the entire room, in a most exquisite collage.

Each art object in the exhibition reflects excellent craftsmanship. Each piece of work has an English label describing it in detail, so it is tourist friendly. Arts of the Kingdom also has a wide range of arts and craft items from silk, cotton, carved wood, gold and silver. This includes several rare and unique masterpieces, like the magnificent Suphannapetra golden junk. At the end of the exhibition there is a souvenir shop with several handmade items for sale.

Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall is open every day except Monday from 10 am until 6 pm. It closes on public holidays as well. Just ask our concierge for more information about this amazing attraction.
