The MetroForest Project, Forest in the city

Any Bangkok resident knows that finding green space in the city’s dense concrete jungle can be difficult. Thankfully, there are corporations like PTT to initiate projects like The Metro-Forest Project. As part of the Green Roadmap initiative, the Petroleum Authority of Thailand aims to increase green spaces for city dwellers. This 4.74 acre plot also promotes afforestation as the green symbol for Bangkokians.

Escape Bangkok pollution and get a breath of fresh air at Metro-Forest Project by PTT

Escape Bangkok pollution and get a breath of fresh air at the Forest in the city, Metro-Forest Project by PTT. Residents and visitors commonly refer to this amazing space as A Forest in the City. The Metro-Forest Project is 6 km from Suvarnabhumi Airport. The project’s purpose is to spread awareness about the importance of forests and the dangers of deforestation. One of the most impressive features is the skywalk and the 23 metre high observation tower. The tower not only offers a unique vantage point to admire all the green space, but also protects the 250 native plant species in the forest below. The site constitutes 75% natural forests, 10% water resources and the rest houses a multipurpose area and exhibition venue.

The Metro-Forest Project is an ecological forest; the design aims to recreate Bangkok’s former landscape while providing an outlet for public education and enjoyment. Visitors can stroll among approximately 60,000 trees of more than 279 unique species. No other green space in Bangkok can boast such rich ecological diversity. The creation of the forest is very different from typical landscaping of Asian gardens. It emphasises natural wilderness that is educational and fun. With the aim to inspire Bangkok residents to plant saplings and grow their own green space in their backyard. A true forest in the city, it is certainly worth traveling for. Get a breath of fresh air and take in the sites of a Bangkok from the days before skyscrapers and shopping malls.

PTT Metro-Forest Project is open every day except Mondays, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
